A Quick Overview of Blender History

There is a start for everything. Most established things in our lives, from people, to common everyday objects; they all had very simple starts. You may be interested in finding out more about a common household kitchen appliance. Let's review the history of kitchen blenders.

The Recent Past

Stephen Poplawski was the first man to design and create a working blender. He was able to accomplish this in 1922. He designed the first blenders to make soda fountain drinks. Poplawski was a genius because he was the first to add blades to the bottom of a container that could grind and chop ingredients.

Poplawski passed the torch to Fred Osius. He made some innovative modifications to the idea of the blender. In 1935 the world renowned Waring blender was created. The Hamilton Beach Manufacturing company was created by Osius, L.H. Hamilton, and Chester Beach. The company began in 1910. The company had a fantastic reputation for creating fantastic kitchen appliances.

History of the Waring Blender

Fred Waring provided the capital and financial support for Osius to move forward with his ideas. Gadgets had always interested Waring and he always wanted to tinker with things. Osius felt that Waring had a keen interest in home appliances like blenders. Osius needed more financial support at the time to get his blender production moving forward.

Waring was a famous radio broadcaster with lots of financial capital. Osius pitched his blender idea to Waring in his dressing room after a show. The Vanderbilt Theatre in New York was the site of this meeting. Waring was immediately intrigued by the idea and promised to provide funding to Waring for further research and development.

Osius though could not create a working blender and Waring had to drop him after spending $25,000 and 6 months. There were still a lot of technical problems with the blender and Waring thought that Osius was taking to long with this project. Waring contracted out to have the blender redesigned. Waring introduced his own blender version in 1937 and called it the Miracle Blender.

The National Restaurant show in Chicago was the site of this great introduction. $29.75 was the introductory retail price of this blender. In 1938, Waring decided to change his company's name to the Waring Corporation. Previously it was the Miracle Mixer Corporation. He also decided to change the name of his blender to the Waring blender.

He had the highest level of confidence in his product. Waring first pitched the hotel and restaurant industry with his blender. He talked about the quality and uniqueness of his product and how it would revolutionize that ways the world made drinks. He proved correct. Blenders have been a huge success all over the world and are found in millions of households.

Waring blenders remain popular and are amongst the best blenders on the market. Blenders are not only used in homes, but also hospitals for doctors to provide for patients with special dietary needs. Waring hit a real milestone in 1954 when they sold their one millionth blender.

It's interesting to know that the blender has transformed itself over the years into the helpful product you find today. You can use it in so many ways, for such a wide variety of different tasks. That is one reason it has remained so popular over the years. You can use your blender for fresh smoothies, healthy drinks, and making a huge variety of different dishes.
